EuroCrops
EuroCrops is a Europe-wide harmonised and machine-readable dataset that reflects the cultivation status of crops with a high spatial accuracy. The dataset provides a valuable basis for the development of automatic vegetation classification methods from multispectral and multitemporal satellite data and serves in particular as a training dataset for AI models.
The data basis of EuroCrops is the official LPIS (Land Parcel Identification System) reporting data from countries of the European Union, as far as these are freely available. This is currently the case for 17 countries in whole or in part.
The project datasets contain selected attributes from the original files, geographical coordinates for each agricultural parcel and the main crop type of each parcel. They are publicly available, e.g. to support developments in the context of subsidy control of agricultural self-declarations.

Taxonomy
The taxonomy used is HCAT, a taxonomy developed specifically for crops registered in the European Union and for agricultural applications. It covers more than 200 crops.
The development of HCAT and the creation of the data set was carried out by the Technical University of Munich (TUM) as part of a project funded by the DLR Space Agency on behalf of the BMWK (Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection).
