Land - CORINE Land Cover
CORINE Land Cover (CLC) is a Europe-wide data set on land cover. It is commissioned by the European Environment Agency and made available free of charge as part of the Copernicus program. With the help of this data set landscape changes can be detected and are recorded in a uniform manner throughout Europe.
CODE-DE features the data set CLC5 representing a description of the landscape in vector format according to the nomenclature of CORINE Land Cover (CLC). It reflects the land cover over Germany and also includes aspects of land use. The basis for CLC5 is the Land Cover Model Germany 2018 (LBM-DE2018) with its detailed classification into land cover and land use as well as information on the proportion of sealing and vegetation with a minimum object size of 1 ha. Clear CLC classes are derived from this model. These data are then generalized for CLC5 to a minimum area size of 5ha.
The nomenclature for land cover classes, which is agreed upon throughout Europe, contains 44 classes, divided into 5 main groups:
- Artificial Surfaces
- Agricultural Areas
- Forest and Seminatural Area
- Wetlands
- Water Bodies
For Germany, 37 of the 44 land cover or land use classes are relevant. The primary basis for CORINE Land Cover were satellite data of the Landsat TM, SPOT HRV and IRS-LISS.
