LaVerDi

LaVerDi (Landschaftsveränderungsdienst - Landscape Change Service) is a web application of the BKG (Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie - Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy) implemented on CODE-DE. The main objective of LaVerDi is to automatically derive changes using Copernicus Sentinel data to support updating and validation of BKG internal products. The changes are provided via an online map service and updated annually.

LaVerDi is Germany's first cloud-based web application for providing and analyzing land cover change indications. For this purpose, time series from Sentinel-2 satellite data of the Copernicus program are used to automatically derive up-to-date and consistent indications of changes in Germany's land cover and to ensure regular monitoring.

The LaVerDi Web Service was implemented on behalf of the BKG by GAF AG on the national Copernicus platform CODE-DE. The LaVerDi change layer is available to registered CODE-DE users for further use in their own applications.

Methodology

Derived vegetation descriptive metrics, such as the minimum or mean NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) of the same period of two consecutive reference years (t0, t1) are being compared. The resulting changes, based on 10m pixels, are then subjected to filtering and plausibility checking to generate the final change layer. The final change dataset has an accuracy of detected changes of over 80% and is available for download as a vector dataset including the relevant change attributes as a shapefile. The reference for the change annotation is the current digital land cover model (LBM-DE) of the BKG.

LaVerDi Viewer

Another possibility to access the change layers is the LaVerDi Viewer of the BKG. It allows the interactive analysis of the vector-based change notes. A number of online analysis tools are available to the user. The link to the LaVerDi Viewer can be found below. Here you must explicitly agree to LaVerDi's terms of use. By opening the LaVerDi viewer you will leave the CODE-DE site.
