PlanetScope
The PlanetScope satellite constellation consists of multiple launches of groups of individual Dove satellites into a 400 km orbit. Some of them were launched from the ISS. Therefore, on-orbit capacity is constantly improving in capability or quantity. Each Dove satellite is a CubeSat with a size of 10 x 10 x 30 cm. The complete PlanetScope constellation of hundreds of satellites is able to image the entire land surface of the Earth on an (almost-) daily basis, equating to a collection capacity of 200 million km².
The PlanetScope data of this collection have been purchased by the German Space Agency with funds from the Ministry of Economy and is available for Germany-based researchers for scientific use. PlanetScope imagery products are available to authorised institutions only.
Available data
Currently, we offer the following data bundles and products per instrument:
| Bundle | Instrument | Product / Asset |

| Visual (ToA) | Dove Classic, Dove R, Super Dove | ortho_visual |
| Analytic (ToA) | Dove Classic, Dove R | ortho_analytic_4b ortho_analytic_4b_xml ortho_udm2 |
| Super Dove | ortho_analytic_8b ortho_analytic_8b_xml ortho_udm2 | |
| Analytic SR (BoA) | Dove Classic, Dove R | ortho_analytic_4b_sr ortho_analytic_4b_xml ortho_udm2 |
| Super Dove | ortho_analytic_8b_sr ortho_analytic_8b_xml ortho_udm2 |
More information about the data bundles can be found here.
In addition to the PlanetScope data already available in the EO-Lab archive, new data will be procured on an ongoing basis. To this end, the German Space Agency plans to launch a call for applications at least once a year, to which authorised institutions can apply - so-called PlanetScope Calls. You will be informed via our EO-Newsletter and the EO-Lab website. Projects focussing on sustainable development, environmental and climate policy and AI methods will be given priority. Data sets of selected applications will be stored on EO-Lab for re-use.
In case you do not find what you are looking for in the existing archive, you have the option to apply for a so-called "PlanetScope User Request" for individual PlanetScope data procurement. However, this is only possible for small spatial and temporal extents.
Usage requirements
- Registration on CODE-DE: yes
- Cloud resources on CODE-DE: yes
- Individual request: yes
Data access
These data are only available on individual request and for authorised institutions only.
- Not yet available: To request access to the existing data in the EO-Lab RESA Archive, please go to "Data Request" in the Profile Manager on EO-Lab, then click on "Create Request" and choose "Data access". Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted with further information. Once granted access, you will see the data in
- /eolab/Planet-PlanetScope
- To perform a PlanetScope User Request, please go to "Data Request" in the Profile Manager on EO-Lab, then click on "Create Request" and choose "PlanetScope User Request". You will be asked to fill out a form describing your project and needs. After submission, your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted with further information.
