RapidEye Coverage (DE)
Based on RapidEye satellite data, cloud-free complete coverage of the federal territory is provided by the BKG for the years 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2017.
These remote sensing data are also available on CODE-DE and can be used there or downloaded from there by federal agencies and federal institutional grantees - after legitimacy has been verified by the BKG Service Center (DLZ).
For the purpose of creating and updating the product 'Land Cover Model Germany' (Landbedeckungsmodell Deutschland, LBM-DE), the BKG has procured high-resolution and nearly cloud-free complete coverages of the federal territory for the years 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2017.
In order to simplify subsequent use by the authorities and to ensure adequate processing of the large volumes of data (approx. 700 GB per coverage), the BKG RapidEye data is stored on the Cloud on BSI-compliant servers and made available to authenticated official users for processing or downloading.
The multitemporal satellite images were acquired with the RapidEye sensor (5 channels,: R, G, B, RE, IR). They are mostly cloud-free (less than 5 percent nationwide) and have an average positional accuracy of 7.5 meters. Because of the high resolution of 5 meters and the Red Edge and Near Infrared imaging, they are ideal for detailed acquisition and characterization of landscape units and vegetation and their changes over time. Other areas of application include agriculture, water research or settlement development.
